This is what proper accents can do. A modest single-story house with a beautifully accented front entrance-and it turns out gorgeous! Usually it's the opposite: a big, pointless box with a clumsy, baffling entry. People who grew up in apartments forget that country life doesn't happen only inside boxes.

Square columns. None of the trim is white; it's a muted, almost beige tone.

Nice window frames.

The wide staircase is done with real heart. It's broader than the doorway and runs up to the columns at its edges-so what? These people know how to live beautifully! The vases set in front of the steps amplify the effect.
