Moorish Façade with Lace-like Arcade: An Interplay of Stone and Light

#2564. Moorish Façade with Lace-like Arcade: An Interplay of Stone and Light

Before us is a magnificent example of Moorish architecture with a characteristic arcade richly adorned with intricate latticework. The façade features a gallery of five pointed arches, each framed with exquisite carved decorations that create the effect of lace draped over the stone surface.

Particularly noteworthy is the filigree carving above the arches – the so-called sebka pattern – a complex geometric design filled with vegetal motifs typical of Islamic architecture. Each arch rests on slender columns with simple capitals that emphasize the vertical rhythm of the composition. The upper part of the façade is crowned with a characteristic wooden cornice with projecting beams (modillions) supporting the traditional tiled roof.

The architectural composition is softened by elements of landscape design: symmetrically placed evergreen shrubs, neatly trimmed into spherical shapes, and a row of terracotta pots with low-growing plants creating an additional rhythm at the base of the façade. This arrangement highlights the harmonious combination of architecture and nature, characteristic of Hispano-Moorish palace complexes.
