#2256. Baroque Facade of a Colonial Building with 1795 Sundial

The image showcases a magnificent example of colonial architecture with characteristic baroque elements. The facade is painted in a soft turquoise color, creating a striking contrast with the rich cream-colored stucco decorations. At the center of the facade is a sundial (dated 1795, as visible) framed by an exquisite ornamental cartouche with scrolls and floral motifs.

The upper part of the facade is designed as a curved pediment with a flowing wave-like line, culminating in decorative spherical elements with conical finials. On both sides of the composition are sculptural figures, presumably putti or angels, installed on decorative consoles. Abundant vegetal ornaments in the form of garlands and floral motifs connect the elements of the facade into a single harmonious composition.

The preservation of the original decorative elements is of particular value, allowing us to appreciate the high craftsmanship of the carvers and plasterers of the colonial period. The architectural plasticity of the facade demonstrates a complex play of light and shadow, characteristic of the baroque tradition adapted to local conditions.
