Wooden Facade with Ornate Pediment: Russian Provincial Art Nouveau

#871. Wooden Facade with Ornate Pediment: Russian Provincial Art Nouveau

Before us stands a striking example of traditional Russian wooden architecture — a residential house with rich decorative embellishments in the style of Russian wooden Art Nouveau with elements of folk wooden craftsmanship. The house is a two-story structure with a characteristic asymmetrical facade composition.

The facade features exquisite wood carving and thoughtful architectural solutions. The central element of the composition is a mezzanine with an impressive figured pediment, adorned with intricate patterns and a decorative medallion in the center. The pediment has a keel-shaped form with smooth curves, characteristic of the Russian style.

The lower floor is decorated with three symmetrically placed windows with ornate window frames, embellished with openwork carvings. The under-window area features a diamond-shaped decorative element. A carved valance runs beneath the roof, giving the structure visual lightness. Particularly noteworthy is the veranda (or porch) with elegant carved pillars and arched elements.

The color scheme of the facade is built on the contrast between light walls and dark brown decorative elements, which emphasizes the depth of the carvings and architectural details. The house is surrounded by a traditional wooden fence that harmoniously complements the overall composition.

This is an excellent example of provincial architecture from the late 19th to early 20th century, when folk motifs and techniques of wooden architecture received a new interpretation in the context of Art Nouveau and eclectic styles.
