#8161. Contrasting Façade with Dynamic Roofing: A Contemporary Reading of Traditional Form

Before us is a striking example of a contemporary interpretation of traditional architecture with a pronounced emphasis on material textures. The building features an asymmetrical façade with a dominant central volume that protrudes forward and creates a canopy over the entrance area. The dark asphalt shingle roofing creates a strong contrast with the brick masonry walls and light-colored finishing elements.

The façade presents an interesting combination of materials: the base is made of textured brick in warm tones, while the upper part is clad with the same shingles as the roof, creating a cohesive visual solution. The architectural composition is enriched by alternating multi-level pitched roofs and dormer windows, giving the building a dynamic silhouette.

The entrance area is accentuated by a tall triangular canopy supported by simple columns, creating a sense of monumentality even in a building of relatively small scale. The glass entrance doors with the "HARBACH" inscription introduce a modern element to the traditional architectural form.

In designing your own façade, you could use similar techniques: contrasting material combinations, entrance zone accentuation, playing with volumes and asymmetry. Particularly noteworthy is the effective use of a single material (shingles) for both roofing and cladding vertical surfaces, which creates a cohesive image of the building despite the complexity of its form.
