Mint Green Facade of UFRN University Building: Eclectic Brazilian Colonial Architecture

#6530. Mint Green Facade of UFRN University Building: Eclectic Brazilian Colonial Architecture

Before us stands an expressive example of Brazilian colonial architecture - the majestic building of UFRN (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte). The facade is painted in a characteristic mint green color, which effectively contrasts with the white architectural elements.

The building demonstrates classic features of eclectic architecture from the early 20th century, combining elements of neoclassicism and art deco. The central part of the facade is accentuated by an expressive arched window on the second floor with decorative ornaments and crowned with a small decorative element in the shape of a cross. The symmetrical composition emphasizes the monumentality of the structure.

The first floor is designed with an arcade featuring four semicircular arched openings, framed by green columns with white capitals. Above the entrance group is an elegant balcony with delicate white geometric pattern balustrades. The second-floor windows have arched tops characteristic of colonial style with decorative window surrounds.

Special expressiveness is added to the architectural appearance by the play of light and shadow created by the protruding elements of the facade and deep window niches. The building is organically integrated into the landscape, which is emphasized by the tropical vegetation that frames it.
