#2700. Decorative terracotta facade of a German credit association from 1914 with neo-Gothic elements

Before us is an exceptional example of neo-Gothic architecture from the early 20th century — a richly decorated entrance portal of a building dated 1914 ("ANNO 1914"), as indicated on the facade. The portal is made of terracotta material framed by red brick, creating a striking contrast with the lower part of the facade made of light-colored stone.

The central element of the composition is a double wooden door with exquisite carvings and wrought-iron grilles over small glazed windows. Above the door is a magnificent decorative element with a wrought-iron pattern, in the center of which is a lantern. Above this element, there is an inscription "Vorschuss Verein" (presumably "Credit Association" in German), indicating the original purpose of the building.

Of particular artistic value are the two statues on either side of the entrance, executed in a classical style, as well as the rich relief ornament covering the entire surface of the terracotta framing. The ornament represents a repeating pattern of floral motifs enclosed in diamond-shaped frames, which is characteristic of the decorative arts of that period.

This facade demonstrates a synthesis of neo-Gothic elements with Art Nouveau and neoclassical motifs, which was typical of architecture from the early 20th century, when various historical styles were reimagined and combined within a single object.
