Modernist Brick Facade with Central Bay Window

#16135. Modernist Brick Facade with Central Bay Window

Before us is an interesting example of mid-20th century modernist architecture, likely from the 1930s. This urban residence stands out among neighboring more traditional buildings with its distinctly geometric and minimalist facade.

The facade features a clear compositional structure and symmetry. The main element is the central bay window with a large glass panel, framed by vertical narrow window openings on both sides. The brick masonry of the facade creates an interesting texture, while the horizontal ribbon windows on the upper level emphasize the modernist character of the building.

Particularly noteworthy is the protruding central element with a balcony at the second-floor level, which creates an interesting play of volumes and adds depth to the facade. The entrance group with a dark door and windows on both sides creates an expressive contrast with the main volume of the building.

When designing a contemporary facade, several techniques present in this example could be adopted: the use of clear geometry and symmetry, combining different types of windows to create rhythm, highlighting the central axis of the building with a volumetric element, and thoughtful work with materials (in this case - brick) that creates a textural contrast with the glazing.
