Shingle Facade with Stone Elements: A Harmony of Natural Materials in Country Architecture

#628. Shingle Facade with Stone Elements: A Harmony of Natural Materials in Country Architecture

This impressive country house showcases an exceptional example of Shingle Style architecture with Arts and Crafts elements. The facade presents a harmonious combination of natural materials: honey-toned cedar shingles on the upper level and fieldstone masonry on the lower portion and substantial chimneys.

The asymmetrical gable with flowing roof curves creates a soft silhouette characteristic of organic architecture. A central arched window with decorative glazing framed by green trim takes the focal point of the facade. On either side, oval decorative windows with geometric patterns and stained glass elements add a touch of sophistication to the building.

Green wooden elements—window trim, balustrades, and railings—create an expressive contrast with the warm tone of the cedar shingles. The two-level porch with stone supports and elegant railings emphasizes the welcoming character of the structure. Double entry doors with glazing are framed by stone columns, creating an imposing portal.

The overall composition of the house blends organically with the surrounding landscape due to thoughtful landscaping, including low stone retaining walls and multi-level plantings, creating a smooth transition between architecture and the natural environment.
