#5838. Historical Art Nouveau façade with contrasting decorative treatment of floors

Before us is a fragment of a historical building façade executed in the Art Nouveau style with neoclassical elements. The façade demonstrates an interesting combination of decorative techniques. In the upper part, one can see elegant ornamental shields (cartouches) with heraldic motifs, framed by lush stucco decorations with characteristic acanthus leaves.

The decoration of the first floor (upper part of the image) features a more formal and restrained approach, with symmetrically placed cartouches between the windows. The cornice is decorated with repeating hanging elements that create a rhythmic pattern and interplay of light and shadow.

The lower floor in the image (second floor) is designed in a more fluid manner with wave-like relief resembling stylized water motifs – a characteristic technique of Art Nouveau. This flowing ornament contrasts with the geometric panels under the windows, which have a clear square shape with decorative elements inscribed within them.

The windows themselves are double-casement with horizontal transoms and vertical muntins, typical for European architecture of the late 19th – early 20th century. The light, sandy color of the building's plaster emphasizes the relief of the decorative elements thanks to soft shadows.
