Modern House with Cantilevered Facade: A Blend of Concrete, Wood and Stone

#281. Modern House with Cantilevered Facade: A Blend of Concrete, Wood and Stone

This modern house exemplifies minimalist architecture where concrete, wood, and glass form an expressive trio of materials. The building's facade features clean geometric forms with a characteristic cantilevered upper floor, creating the impression of a floating volume. The contrast between the cold gray concrete surface and the warm wooden cladding arranged in vertical slats adds particular expressiveness to the facade design.

The stone wall made of rough-cut stone serves not only as a property boundary but also becomes an important element of the architectural composition, creating a textural contrast with the smooth surfaces of the building. The entrance area is designed as a wooden portal with a massive door that seamlessly integrates into the stone wall, offering a visually interesting transition from the rough texture of stone to the warmth of wood.

The panoramic glazing of the second floor with minimalist frames provides abundant natural light to the interior spaces, while light curtains soften direct sunlight. The project skillfully implements the idea of balance between privacy and openness – the upper floor with large windows contrasts with the more enclosed ground level.

When designing your own facade, several techniques from this project can be adopted: using contrasting materials to highlight the volumes of the building, playing with cantilevered projections to create dynamics, combining rough textures (stone) with smooth modern surfaces, and the skillful use of wooden elements to add warmth to minimalist architecture.
