Terracotta Façade with Eclectic Ornamentation: Transitional Style from Art Nouveau to Modernism

#2750. Terracotta Façade with Eclectic Ornamentation: Transitional Style from Art Nouveau to Modernism

Before us is a remarkable example of an early 20th century brick building with rich decorative elements characteristic of the transitional period between Art Nouveau and early Modernism. The façade is made of terracotta brick with contrasting architectural details crafted from lighter-colored stone.

The façade composition is strictly symmetrical with a three-part vertical division. The upper part is crowned with a decorative parapet featuring ornamental urns at the edges, giving the building a sense of monumentality. The central section of the parapet is adorned with a geometric pattern and a small circular window framed in stone.

Of particular interest are the decorative inserts with checkerboard patterns, which create rhythmic diversity against the brick façade. The lower tier is embellished with stylized relief images reminiscent of Egyptian motifs — four figures, possibly sphinxes or lions, flanking the base of the building.

The window openings are framed by stone portals with decorative elements above them, where small heraldic inserts or medallions are placed. The central triple window on the first floor emphasizes the entrance group and sets the main axis of symmetry for the entire façade.

Overall, the building's architecture demonstrates a transition from lavish decorativism to more strict and geometric forms, while maintaining attention to detail and materials.
