Modernist Facade of the Catalan Central Electricity Company: Brick Eclecticism and Industrial Aesthetics

#2011. Modernist Facade of the Catalan Central Electricity Company: Brick Eclecticism and Industrial Aesthetics

This is an outstanding example of early 20th century modernist architecture, showcasing a magnificent combination of brickwork and decorative elements. The facade of the "Central Catalana de Electricidad" (Catalan Central Electricity Company) building is executed in the Catalan Modernism style, characteristic of Barcelona during that period.

The entrance is designed as a monumental arch made of red brick with contrasting light stone elements. Particular attention is drawn to the exquisite texture work: ribbed columns with ornamental capitals, decorative brickwork, and wrought iron elements. Above the entrance is a semi-circular arched structure with the company name displayed in green letters.

The facade demonstrates a carefully conceived interplay of materials — combining warm red brick, light-colored stone, and metallic details. The wooden entrance door with metal fixtures creates a sense of solidity and reflects the industrial character of the building. The decorative side balconies with wrought iron railings add elegance to the facade and emphasize its festive appearance, despite the building's industrial purpose.
