Decorative Facade Console from 1902 in the Form of a Horse's Head: An Exquisite Element of Architectural Decor

#1792. Decorative Facade Console from 1902 in the Form of a Horse's Head: An Exquisite Element of Architectural Decor

Before us is a remarkable architectural element - a sculptural console in the form of a horse's head, which is part of the architectural decor of the facade. This decorative element dates back to 1902, according to the inscription visible in the image. Executed in beige-sand colored stone, the sculpture represents a highly artistic embodiment of zoomorphic themes in early 20th century architecture.

The console is crafted with astounding attention to detail: the features of the horse's muzzle are masterfully worked out, including expressive eyes, nostrils, and teeth, even the bridle is visible, giving the element special realism. The decorative curls and elements in Art Nouveau or eclectic style surrounding the sculpture create a harmonious combination of organic and geometric forms.

This type of architectural decor was characteristic of urban mansions and apartment buildings of the Art Nouveau era and late eclecticism. Such elements not only decorated the facade but also carried a certain functional load, supporting protruding parts of the building. Today, when designing facades, similar details can be interpreted in a modern way, creating a unique appearance of the building with reference to historical architectural traditions.
