Two-story urban house with contrasting facade: brickwork and white plaster

#16176. Two-story urban house with contrasting facade: brickwork and white plaster

Before us is a compact two-story house, demonstrating an elegant example of a modern interpretation of traditional urban development. The building's facade is resolved in an interesting contrasting combination of materials: the upper part is clad in clinker brickwork in warm multi-tonal shades, creating a textural richness of the surface, while the lower floor is finished in white plaster, which visually lightens the composition.

The window openings are framed with crisp white borders that serve as accent elements against the brick masonry of the upper floor and create architectural integrity with the lower part of the facade. The windows are large in format, providing good insolation for the interior spaces. The asymmetrical arrangement of windows lends dynamism and contemporary character to the facade.

The entrance area is designed laconically: a dark green door creates a restrained accent on the white wall of the first floor. The pitched roof with gray slate covering completes the image of the house, harmoniously combining modern and traditional elements. A low white wall in front of the house forms a small private space, separating the building from the street.

In designing your own facade, you can use a similar technique of contrasting combination of materials — the combination of brickwork with smooth plaster creates visual interest without being overloaded with details. Crisp white window framing can become a unifying element of the composition, and using contrasting colored doors allows for accent placement. This project demonstrates how a compact house can look individual and contemporary while using traditional materials in a new interpretation.
