Arched Facade with Wooden Door No.215: Harmony of Wood and Stone

#15162. Arched Facade with Wooden Door No.215: Harmony of Wood and Stone

Before us stands a magnificent example of an exquisite entrance portal in the Art Nouveau style from the early 20th century. Door number 215 represents a meticulously crafted wooden construction with an arched top, harmoniously integrated into the stone framing of the facade. The massive wooden door is made of dark wood with rich texture, likely oak, and has a warm honey-brown hue, creating a striking contrast with the gray stone facade.

Compositionally, the door is divided into four parts with glass inserts protected by decorative wrought iron grilles. The upper part of the door follows the arched shape of the opening, creating a smooth transition between the rectangular lower elements and the curvilinear completion. Particularly noteworthy are the carved decorative elements, especially the small capitals in the middle that separate the upper and lower segments of the door.

The architectural framing of the entrance portal is made of large stone blocks forming an arched structure. The combination of different textures on the facade is interesting: brick masonry on the left, roughly processed stone surface, and smoothly hewn blocks of the arch itself. A small decorative element on the right side of the arch adds asymmetry and visual interest to the overall composition.

When designing your own home facade, several valuable techniques can be borrowed: the contrasting combination of materials (wood and stone), the use of arched forms to create an expressive entrance portal, the application of decorative wrought iron elements to protect glazing, as well as playing with various surface textures to give the facade depth and character.
