Art Nouveau Metal Grille with Oval Ornament in Wooden Facade

#1398. Art Nouveau Metal Grille with Oval Ornament in Wooden Facade

We are presented with an exquisite example of artistic metalwork grille, executed in a style that combines elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The grille is installed in a wooden door or window frame with a warm wood tone, creating an effective contrast with the gray metal.

The composition of the grille demonstrates the mastery of blacksmithing. The upper part consists of straight vertical bars with decorative balls at the ends—a traditional element that gives the structure completeness. The central part presents a complex ornamental pattern dominated by motifs of smooth, flowing lines forming concentric ovals and elegant spirals on the sides. These spiral elements, curled inward, are a classic motif in early 20th century metalwork grilles.

Particularly noteworthy is the central part of the composition with its elegant interweaving of curvilinear forms, creating an effect of movement and depth. At the bottom, the pattern concludes with a round medallion with a small decorative protrusion, giving the entire composition balance and harmony. Behind the grille, one can glimpse the interior of the space and vegetation, highlighting the functionality of this architectural element—providing security while maintaining a visual connection with the surrounding space.

This specimen represents not merely a utilitarian structure but a genuine work of decorative applied art, demonstrating both the aesthetic preferences of the era of its creation and the high level of craftsmanship in its execution.
