Contrasting Facade with Gabions: Modern Solution with Cantilevered Upper Volume

#13243. Contrasting Facade with Gabions: Modern Solution with Cantilevered Upper Volume

This modern architectural object is an expressive example of a contrasting composition, where a massive upper volume effectively hovers over a stone base. The facade demonstrates an interesting combination of materials: the lower part is made of gabion structures — metal meshes filled with stones of various shades of gray, creating a textured stone masonry with an industrial character.

The upper volume is clad with dark vertical panels, presumably made of composite materials or metal, which gives the building a strict, monolithic appearance. Of particular note are the vertical protruding elements on the upper level, which form a rhythmic pattern and simultaneously serve as framing for the tall window openings. These architectural details not only perform a decorative function but can also serve as sun protection elements, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow on the facade.

The middle horizontal belt of the building, separating the stone foundation from the upper volume, has a lighter shade and is possibly made of a different material, which enhances the "floating" effect of the upper volume. The facade design uses the cantilever technique — the upper part of the building extends beyond the boundaries of the lower volume, creating dynamic tension in the overall composition.

Such a facade solution can be adapted for a private home, using a contrasting combination of materials (stone/wood, concrete/metal), creating rhythmic elements on the facade, and working with volumes of different massiveness. The gabion structures shown in the lower part of the building are increasingly being used in private construction today and can become an interesting element of a modern country house.
