Modern Coastal Home with Contrasting Multi-layered Facade

#12385. Modern Coastal Home with Contrasting Multi-layered Facade

This modern residential house showcases an expressive example of mixed materials and forms that create a dynamic and elegant exterior. The building's facade combines several key elements: dark horizontal cladding on the upper level, natural wood finishes, light-colored stucco, and natural stone at the base. This layering of materials gives the building textural richness and visual interest.

The characteristic sloping roof with wide overhangs deserves special attention, creating an impression of lightness and hovering above the main volume of the building. Horizontal lines are emphasized by the placement of windows in the upper section, which form a light band and add lightness to the massive volume of the second floor. The evening lighting shining through these windows creates a lantern effect, making the house a visual beacon in the surrounding landscape.

The stonework in the lower part of the facade not only provides a visual foundation for the composition but also organically connects the building to the coastal landscape visible in the background. Wooden elements, including the entrance door and fence elements, add warmth to the modern, geometrically rigorous design.

To adapt similar techniques in home design, it's worth paying attention to the contrasting combination of materials with different textures and colors, which can give expressiveness even to simple forms. The horizontal cladding of the upper floor visually widens the building, while the thoughtful placement of windows not only provides natural lighting but also becomes a key decorative element of the facade. Stone masonry at the foundation is an excellent way to visually "ground" a modern house and connect it to the surrounding landscape.
