Sergei Tchoban: Sections of the Mind. Architectural graphics in New York

Connoisseurs of architecture and graphic art have a rare opportunity to discover the work of the renowned architect Sergei Tchoban. His debut solo exhibition in New York, titled “Sergei Tchoban: Sections of the Mind,” opened on April 3, 2025, and runs through June 7, 2025.

The exhibition is housed in a notable space—the Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture. It is curated by Vladimir Belogolovsky.

What Will Visitors See?

The exhibition presents a collection of 30 works created by Sergei Tchoban by hand, using charcoal, ink, watercolor, pastel, and printmaking techniques. The central theme is the architectural section, which Tchoban masterfully uses not only to explore the structural and spatial qualities of buildings but also to reveal their hidden histories and meanings.

Visitors will see fantastical visions and competition entries, as well as depictions of the architect’s real, under-construction projects. Tchoban’s work explores the clash of opposites—pragmatism and artistry, history and modernity—offering his vision of a more meaningful and ecological architecture. Of particular interest are the sheets in which futuristic glass volumes of the 21st century coexist with views of ancient Rome in the spirit of Piranesi, alongside nostalgic ruins and projects for his native Saint Petersburg.
