A magnificent example of a traditional Moroccan riad—an interior courtyard transformed into a luxurious living space. The interior impresses with authentic architecture featuring characteristic arched passages, exquisite plasterwork, and colorful stained glass windows on the upper level. The space is organized around a central open area, traditionally housing a fountain or small garden, which we can see in the background of the composition.
Particularly noteworthy is the splendid combination of architectural elements: lace-like arches with Islamic geometric motifs, elegant columns supporting the upper level, and ornamental wall decor characteristic of Moroccan style. The central area is furnished as a lounge space with low sofas, a traditional black tray table, and vibrant red textile accents against the geometric black and white pattern of the floor tiles.
The color palette demonstrates the classic Moroccan style combination of terracotta, red, and ochre tones against white walls and blue elements in the finishes and stained glass. Natural light filtering through the colored glass and central courtyard creates a unique play of light and shadow, characteristic of traditional North African architecture.
When designing the facade of a country house, several elements from this space could be borrowed: the concept of an interior courtyard allowing light to penetrate the center of the home, the use of arched openings for space zoning, and the combination of traditional ornaments with modern interior items. Even in Russian conditions, one can adapt stained glass elements, ornamental motifs, and the principle of organizing space around a central light well.
