Forest Residence with Contrasting Facade: A Dialogue Between Wood and Metal

#8903. Forest Residence with Contrasting Facade: A Dialogue Between Wood and Metal

This country house exemplifies striking contemporary architecture with expressive contrasts in materials and forms. The facade features a dynamic asymmetrical composition where two main volumes combine: a dark brown wooden block with a dramatic sharp-angled roof and a light metal structure with horizontal cladding.

The left part of the facade draws attention with its rich wooden finish and expressive roof geometry featuring an unconventional slope angle. Large panoramic windows create transparency and ensure a close connection between interior spaces and the forest surroundings. The right section of the building, clad in light metal siding, establishes a contrasting dialogue with the dark wooden volume. The garage door with transparent panels supports the overall concept of transparency and lightness.

The entrance area deserves special attention with its clearly defined concrete podium and minimalist pathway illuminated by ground-embedded lights. The architect skillfully employs contrast between warm and cold materials — warm wood juxtaposed against cold metal, concrete, and glass.

When designing your own facade, several techniques from this project could be adopted: contrasting combinations of different finishing materials; playing with roof geometry to create an expressive silhouette; abundant glazing to connect with natural surroundings; using lighting as an element of architectural composition; combining horizontal and vertical lines in cladding to create rhythm across the facade.
