This project is an excellent example of contemporary architectural intervention within a historic development. We see a traditional London brick townhouse that has been enhanced with a modern extension featuring an expressive wooden facade. The vertical wooden slats, finished in a warm brown tone, create a dynamic rhythm on the facade and serve both functional and aesthetic purposes.
The contrast between the classic brickwork of the main building and the modern wooden screen creates an interesting dialogue between past and present. The lower level of the extension is executed in a minimalist white finish with large glass sliding doors that provide visual lightness and connect the interior space with the small, well-maintained garden.
Particularly interesting is the wooden cladding solution, which doesn't completely cover the facade but rather works as a semi-transparent screen, creating an interplay of light and shadow. This approach to facade design can be adapted for private homes where a combination of privacy and natural lighting is required. The vertical wooden elements also add visual height to the building, which is especially valuable in dense urban settings.
The project demonstrates how contemporary architectural techniques can respectfully coexist with historical architecture, not by imitating it, but by creating a bold yet tactful contrast.
